Meet Rob Owen

I’ve spent 25 years around teenage boys.
Raising my own made it personal.

Hi, I’m Rob. I’m an educator, mentor, coach, author, and father.

I’ve spent most of my adult life helping young people discover who they are, what they’re capable of, and how to navigate a world that doesn’t always make growing up easy.

I’ve learned a lot along the way.

I know that people are a whole lot more than their struggles.

Don’t start with what’s wrong.
Look for what’s strong.

  • Is it a kid who won’t sit still or energy that needs to be leveraged?
  • Is it a boy who doesn’t care? Or is there something going on that nobody’s asked about?
  • Is it a father losing his temper?
  • Or a dad who loves his son but doesn’t always know how to get through to him.

I’ve learned that there’s always more to a person than what you see at first. Strengths they haven’t recognized. Potential they haven’t tapped into. And new ways forward they haven’t considered.

That’s how I’ve approached teaching, mentoring, fatherhood, and now coaching.

And it’s been the greatest journey of my life.

Lessons from the classroom.
Humbling moments being a dad.

I’ve spent 25 years teaching and mentoring teenagers, founded a nonprofit middle school, written two books, and worked with boys through some of the toughest years of growing up.

But here’s the thing.

Knowing a lot about teenage boys doesn’t mean you always know what to do with your own.

I’m a father of three, including two teenage sons. I’ve felt the pride, worry, frustration, and uncertainty firsthand. I’ve made mistakes, learned when to step in and when to back off, and I’m still figuring things out.

I’m not here to lecture you about being a better dad. I’m here to listen, speak honestly, and help you find your own way forward.

Some things hit closer to home.

My brother struggled with addiction, abuse, homelessness, and disconnection. He died on the streets.

That experience changed how I see people. It taught me that what’s happening on the outside rarely tells the whole story, and no young man should be written off as difficult or beyond reach.

I know what’s at stake when someone is struggling to find his way. And why showing up before the distance grows matters so much.

Staying steady takes practice.

25 years studying Tai Chi, Qigong, and mindfulness told me a thing or two about steadiness. Not every dad needs to sit cross-legged on a mountain, but practicing stillness and steadiness can change you.

When you can get a handle on yourself, you’re better equipped to handle what’s happening around you.

You think more clearly, listen better, and stop letting frustration call the shots.

I bring these tools into my coaching when they’re useful. Nothing fancy. Just practical ways to stay grounded when it matters most.

I’ve worn a few hats along the way.
